These are the HealthCare.gov dates, which Florida uses. A few states run their own Marketplace with different deadlines. Coverage starts once you enroll and pay your first premium.
What to do this Open Enrollment
- Don't just let it roll over. If you have a Marketplace plan and do nothing, you may be automatically re-enrolled. Your plan, price, network and savings can all change from year to year, so it's worth a fresh look.
- Update your income estimate for 2027. Savings are based on what you expect your household to make in the year you want coverage, not last year. A raise, a new job or a change in household can change your savings.
- Check your doctors and prescriptions. Networks and drug lists change. Make sure the doctors, hospitals and medicines you rely on are covered by the plan you pick.
- Compare total cost, not just the monthly price. Look at the deductible, copays and out-of-pocket maximum along with the premium. The cheapest monthly price isn't always the cheapest year.
- Pay your first premium. Your coverage doesn't start until it's paid.
What to have handy
- Ages and ZIP code for everyone who needs coverage
- Your best estimate of household income for 2027
- Names of doctors you want to keep and the prescriptions you take
- Any current coverage info, like a job-based plan offer or a Marketplace notice
About your private info: the official Marketplace application asks for things like Social Security numbers for the people applying. That goes into the secure application. I'll never ask for your SSN, bank info or health details by text or email.
Missed it, or something changed?
Outside Open Enrollment, you can generally only enroll in a Marketplace plan if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, for example after losing other coverage, moving, getting married or having a baby. Some private plans can be bought at other times of year with their own rules. Reach out and I'll check what's open to you.
How I help (free to you)
- No fee for my help. Agents are paid by the insurance company when you enroll, and you don't pay extra for working with me.
- Side-by-side comparisons of Marketplace plans, plus private-plan options outside the Marketplace when they might fit better.
- A savings check. I'll estimate the tax credit you may qualify for. Your final amount is set by the official application.
- Doctor and prescription checks before you choose.
- Help after you enroll with bills, ID cards, questions and next year's renewal.
