How it works in Florida
- Florida uses HealthCare.gov. There's no separate state Marketplace, so Open Enrollment follows the federal dates: Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027, with a Dec 15 deadline for coverage starting January 1.
- Plans and prices depend on your county and ZIP code. The plans offered in Orange County can be different from the ones in Polk or Volusia, so the right plan for your neighbor may not be right for you.
- Income-based savings. Marketplace plans can come with a premium tax credit based on your household size and income. Here's how that works.
- Medicaid. Florida hasn't expanded Medicaid, so some adults with very low incomes don't qualify for Marketplace savings or Medicaid. If that might be you, call me and we'll look at your options together.
Orlando and Central Florida
I'm based in Orlando and work with people across Central Florida, including Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Volusia, Brevard and Polk counties. Most people get everything done in one phone call, and you can reach me by call or text after you enroll.
Lots of people here work for themselves, drive for an app, work in hospitality or tourism, or are between jobs. If you don't get insurance through work, you're who I help every day.
Marketplace plans and private plans, side by side
Because I'm independent, I can show you more than one kind of coverage:
- ACA Marketplace plans follow ACA rules: they cover pre-existing conditions and essential health benefits, and they're the only plans that come with the premium tax credit.
- Private plans sold outside the Marketplace have their own rules about who qualifies and what's covered. Some ask health questions, and they may not cover everything a Marketplace plan does. For some healthy people or people who don't qualify for savings, they can be worth comparing.
I'll explain the trade-offs in plain English so you can decide what fits. You pick; I never push.
Licensed and independent
I'm Terry Kleef, a licensed health insurance agent (NPN 20058049) based in Orlando. I'm not tied to one insurance company, and there's no fee for my help. I'm also licensed in a number of other states, so if you or family live outside Florida, ask me about yours.
Dates and deadlines are on the Open Enrollment 2027 page.
